HouseDesigns&Floorplans and HomeInteriorDecoratingIdeas Bring You Ideas for Designing Your Living Room Space
A den is simple to explain. It’s cozy, features multifunctional furnishings, and is typically the most used room in your house. All the same, it takes more than a large TV to create an environment that everyone can enjoy.
The family room renovation in Joshua and Grezelda Smith’s residence in New York is a great example of this. Working with renowned architect Chuck Peabody (who created the house designs and floor plans) and designer Janey Jimplin (who brought the home interior decorating ideas), the Smiths included selected components so the new area lives up to their requirements. Now they have a multifunctional room which has a traditional elegance. Join us, and find out precisely how Chuck and Janey combined several key elements to create the Smiths’ most loved room.
Phase 1: Area Relationship
Chuck’s design for the new addition connects the main living area from one side and the patio from the other. “We needed to reach the yard easily,” says Peabody. The move from new to old is very simple and convenient. “Friends who come by have no clue this space was a remodeled addition.”
Phase 2: Relaxation and Longevity With Taste
Janey and her co-designer Elizabeth Surfroot designed a dual-function seating area. The footstool works as a coffee table but has the convenience of a chair. There is a lot of room for the kids to chill out on the floor while gaming or watching television. A simple wool rug masks dirt and resists wear and tear. Upholstered chairs serve the same function — attractive sturdiness. If the brown chenille gets ruined, it can probably be reconditioned. The timelessness of the decor justifies the investment on well-built, top quality accessories.
Phase 3: Functional Storage Spots
Janey and Chuck ensured the Smiths had particular spots for their electronic devices. Practical builtin cabinets also create architectural appeal. The tv and Blu-ray player are stored on either side, while the second cabinet stores games.
Phase 4: Daylight and Color Choice
Sunlight plays a big role in the space due to the many windows. Yellow surfaces and corresponding materials fill the spot with warmth. Small halogen lights in the ceiling, in addition to floor lamps in a couple of corners, add more functional task lighting.
